Recent reports of tourists being denied boarding or entry to Dubai have caused confusion. Here is everything you need to know about the financial requirements for visiting the UAE on a tourist visa.

The Requirement

Strictly speaking, UAE immigration wants to ensure that tourists can financially support their stay without seeking illegal employment. The general rule of thumb enforced by airlines and immigration officers is:

"Travelers should carry proof of funds equivalent to roughly AED 3,000 to AED 5,000 (approx $800 - $1,300 USD)."

Do I Need Cash?

No, you do not need to carry this in hard cash. While cash is acceptable, authorities also accept:

  • A valid Credit Card with a sufficient credit limit.
  • Bank statements (digital or printed) from the last 3 months.

What Else Do I Need?

Money isn't the only check. To avoid rejection, ensure you also have:

  1. A confirmed return flight ticket.
  2. Proof of accommodation (Hotel booking or an address/number of a relative in UAE).
